Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) are an effective tool to development and correct employee performance especially in the current labor market. National Board of Directors President Blaise Lamphier's vision of leadership by collaboration inspired this session to engage LR peers that may have limited experience with PIP's and other ER tasks. Presented from the practitioner's perspective and direct experiences, this session will:
- Navigate the pros and cons of PIP's.
- Demonstrate the potential success stories when implemented well.
- Discuss the leadership challenges with frontline supervision for successful PIPs.
- Review the pitfalls when not taken seriously.
Speakers
Devan Hardin, MPA is the Chief Human Resources Officer at the City of Newark, Del., where her responsibilities include personnel policy, labor relations, benefits and personnel communications. She has over 15 years of local government experience; earned a Masters of Public Administration with certificates in City Management and Human Resources Management from Villanova University, and prior public experience in Pennsylvania county and local governments before Newark.
Andrew Haines is the National PELRA Executive Director, and prior to his current role, was a municipal town manager with 20-years of governance experience in both Delaware and Pennsylvania, including labor relations, staff development, HR management and administration, budgeting, and accounting among numerous governmental services. He has a proven track record of improving governmental effectiveness and efficiencies. He earned his Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Delaware Joseph R. Biden, Jr. School of Public Policy & Administration.
