NFP’s presentation "Understanding Total Rewards by Generation" explores how employers can effectively tailor compensation and benefits for a multigenerational workforce facing rapidly evolving expectations. We will highlight that while different age groups value incentives like pay, time off, flexibility, health benefits, and workplace culture in distinct ways, universally valued elements include paid time off and work-life balance, though these tend to be influenced more by life stage than age alone. To attract and retain all generations of employees, public employers need to consider personalized, flexible benefits, use of technology and analytics to inform offerings, ongoing collection of employee feedback through multiple channels, and the importance of transparent communication to build trust, fairness, and engagement surrounding total rewards.
