This session will provide an in-depth look at pay equity laws and regulations in Washington State, with a comparison to federal requirements. Participants will gain a clear understanding of legal compliance and risk management, including state and federal enforcement mechanisms, essential documentation and recordkeeping practices, and potential legal liabilities for non-compliance. The training will also cover best practices for implementing pay equity programs, offering practical strategies to promote fairness, reduce risk, and strengthen organizational equity initiatives.
Presenter Bio:
Erik Laiho advises a wide range of private and public sector employers on optimizing their labor relations functions. He has extensive experience assisting employers with union organizing campaigns, responding to unlawful labor practice charges, and representing clients in labor arbitrations stemming from collective bargaining agreements.
In addition to his labor relations work, Erik defends large corporations, local businesses, and individuals against claims involving employee misclassification, wage and hour violations, non-competition agreements, safety violations, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wrongful termination. He also provides guidance on benefits claims, leave law compliance, and employee disciplinary matters.
