The City is seeking experienced attorneys to join its Legal Department in senior-level positions providing legal counsel, representation, and strategic advice to the City, its departments, elected and appointed officials, boards, and commissions.
These positions offer the opportunity to work on a broad and meaningful range of legal matters that directly support City operations, public services, and the community.
A Broad Opportunity for Experienced Attorneys
The City is intentionally taking a broad approach to this recruitment. We recognize that exceptional candidates may bring different combinations of legal experience, professional backgrounds, and areas of expertise.
Accordingly, the specific title, assignment, caseload, and areas of responsibility may be tailored to the qualifications and strengths of the successful candidate, as well as the evolving needs of the City and Legal Department.
Candidates with substantial experience in municipal or governmental law, litigation, administrative law, labor and employment, contracts, real estate, zoning and land use, civil rights, public finance, regulatory enforcement, or other relevant areas are encouraged to apply.
Candidates do not need experience in every practice area. The City is interested in understanding what each candidate can contribute and how their experience can complement the Legal Department’s existing resources.
What You’ll Do
Providing practical, strategic legal advice to City leadership, departments, elected and appointed officials, boards, and commissions.
Advising on complex legal, operational, regulatory, and policy matters.
Representing the City in litigation, administrative proceedings, negotiations, and other legal matters, as appropriate to the assignment.
Drafting and reviewing ordinances, resolutions, contracts, agreements, policies, legal opinions, and other documents.
Advising on compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
Supporting City initiatives, public services, development projects, and organizational objectives.
Collaborating with City staff and outside counsel to identify risks, develop solutions, and advance the City’s interests.
Handling matters within an assigned area of specialization while remaining flexible to address the varied legal issues that arise in municipal government.
